Moments of well-being for supervisors
The Mannerheim League for Child Welfare (MLL) is an open non-governmental organization that promotes the well-being of children, young people, and families with children. Our values are the appreciation of the child and childhood, solidarity, humanity and equality. Our principles are openness, joy, partnership, inclusion, and appreciation of everyday life. Our values and principles are also realized at our workplace.
In cooperation with LovelyLife Ltd., we offered moments of well-being to our supervisors. As part of other supervisors’ training and doing things together, we paused to consider our personal well-being four times under Alisa’s guidance. The topics of our meetings were nutrition, activity, recovery and a permissive attitude towards life, strengths, and self-esteem.
We had online material at our disposal, which included an online lecture on the subject, as well as a program and tips for a wellness journey to travel independently alongside our meetings. However, the most important thing was to pause together, and give ourselves time to prioritize our own well-being for a moment and consider small, concrete changes to make in our lives.
Be seen and heard
After the meetings, we got ourselves a toolkit from the lectures, assignments, tips, and insights, which the supervisors can use together with their teams in the future. Instead of increasing knowledge, our idea that each of us longs to be seen and heard, was strengthened.
Each of us is valuable and the best expert in our own lives. You know how to build the best ways to support your well-being. Encouragement from someone else may still be the key to success this time around. The motivator can be a loved one, a friend, a co-worker, a coach, or even a supervisor.
“Managing well-being always begins with taking care of ourselves. During coaching, we made small personal decisions to take care of ourselves. My own small decision has become a habit. I now walk up the stairs to the 9th floor every day instead of taking the elevator, and after lunch I get to work standing at my desk.”
We recommend pausing to consider your own well-being. Healthy personnel is a prerequisite for our success.
